Southern Italy: Part 2
Here it is Part 2 on my trip of Southern Italy. The following is less about the travelling, it has to do more with a personal excursion that I took. But first.... this is for those who have commented on the first part of this blog and have asked me: "Where the f**k is Molise ?" or " Is Molise near Calabria ?" (You know who you are.... :P) No people, Molise is closer to Rome, which is also 2 hours away from the closest airport.
The reason for my trip to Molise is plain and simple: 1) To see my family and 2) to explore. On one of the days that I set out exploring, I went and see the home where my father, aunt and grandparents lived in up until they moved to Montreal in 1966. I must say that it was quite an eye opening experience!! The "house" is not one building. It is multiple buildings that make up different rooms. For example: One room would be my grandparents bedroom, and to get to the kitchen one would have to go outside where the kitchen would be just a few steps away. Pictures of what's left of the "house" can be seen below.
It was interesting to see how my grandparents had started their family in a small area in Macchiagodena along with 10 other families, and surrounded by absolutely nothing but the land, the view of the mountain and their animals. Literally in the middle of nowhere!! While the area in which they lived in was absolutely beautiful, they had hopes for a better life. So they set out to "America" or more specifically: Montreal, Canada in hopes for a better life for future generations. This is where I come in... the future generation... ME!!!
What I have realized 3 months into this journey is that if it were not for my grandparents who decided to take a chance and start their own journey for a better life in Canada, I would not have many of the opportunities that I have come across today, many of which I have taken for granted.
With that I leave you with some final words of wisdom: Take every opportunity (do not say that you don't have any, because you do!!!) around you to make your life better!! Whether it be for your healthy, academically, or professionally, every chance is an opportunity for you to grow!!
